This week's user meeting video is a fun offering and the last of the videos of the presentations given at Dyalog '14. Go to http://www.dyalog.com/dyalog_14/index.html to read about Dyalog '14 and follow the links to the videos.
• In previous user meetings John has put his dry humour to good use while equipping us with useful lifeskills; this year he teaches us new techniques with a scientific approach to mitigating the effects of "Distractions" while programming. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog14/?v=pVrNT2lGUUo
Over the holiday period we also released two videos involving the security of data, albeit in two very different ways.
• Data tampering, authentication, signatures, certificates, non-repudiation, symmetric vs asymmetric encryption – cryptography can be a confusing subject. In "Cryptography 101", Bjørn provides an overview of the terminology and requirements involved in securely encrypting data, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of different techniques before introducing the Dyalog Cryptographic Library. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog14/?v=2OWqPX38nRY
• Richard starts "Dyalog Component Files and the Dyalog File Server" with a brief review of new/changed component file functionality in Dyalog version 14.0. He covers the new variant options for ⎕FCREATE and ⎕FCHK, multiple component reads, component compression and the accompanying performance enhancements and mentions further changes planned for Dyalog version 14.1 and beyond. He then provides a high level view of the architecture of the Dyalog File Server (DFS) before detailing the advantages of using it over the standard component file system (for example, enhanced security, performance and resilience) and demonstrating the Monitor GUI. http://video.dyalog.com/Dyalog14/?v=KrwgD-5PoNs
