To install Dyalog APL on Windows:

Dyalog APL installs into either C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86). However, you need administrator privileges to write to these directories and their subdirectories.

Note also that you will need administrator privileges when you run the PATCH workspace if you wish to create the new interpreter in the $DYALOG directory. See http://www.dyalog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42 for more details. The same is true of any other patch that Dyalog issues which affects files under $DYALOG or under the Windows directory.

These instructions are for a default installation.

To install under Windows 7 onwards:
    - Download the zipped installation image
    - For Dyalog 14.0
      - Double click on setup*zip
      - Double click on setup.exe
      - When prompted, allow the installer to make changes to your computer
    - For 13.2 and earlier
      - Extract all the files to a temporary directory
      - Right click on setup.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
    - Enter your 6-digit serial number
    - Select "Default Installation"
    - When prompted, reboot the PC.
    - Dyalog APL should now be installed.

To install under Vista:
The most sure way of having a successful installation of Dyalog APL under Vista is to disable UAC, follow the instructions below for installing on XP, and then to reenable UAC.

To install under XP:
    - Download the zipped installation image
    - Double click on the zip file
    - Double click on setup.exe
    - Enter your 6-digit serial number
    - Select "Default Installation"
    - When prompted, reboot the PC.
    - Dyalog APL should now be installed.

Don't forget to remove the temporary directory which you created earlier on.

The installation has created a registry entry in HKLM\Software\MS\Win\CurrentVersion\Run named "Dyalog APL 12.1 Classic User Install" with the value of "C:\Program Files\Dyalog\Dyalog APL 12.1 Classic\setup\instexe12.exe" 32 /InstallUser "C:\Program Files\Dyalog\Dyalog APL 12.1 Classic\."

Somehow that entry seems to persist, but from the looks I would assume this is only required once. Is it safe to remove that, or should it be kep to run every time on startup?

Hi Dan

I will reply to you by seperate email with the serial number information rather than put it on a public forum.
You may also want to consider upgrading your copy of Dyalog APL to the latest version which is Version 13.0 ... as well as full Commercial Licences, we offer a Personal Non-commercial licence for the very low price of £50 and also an Educational Licence that is free to students in full time education. Take a look at our website for more information, terms of use and to apply (http://www.dyalog.com/download-zone.htm)
