Installed 12.1 on HTC HD2...

I was able to install 12.1 on this phone, which I bought just to run PocketAPL on. The install went pretty quickly and worked the first time. I see two new icons on my desktop: Pocket Dyalog 12.1 and Dan. Dan appears to be some sort of demo app that sometimes loads a GUI re London and Heathrow Terminals? Hope Dan is NOT on the "Do Not Fly" list :) How do I get rid of this app?

I had huge problems syncing my phone to my PC (never could) - to finally install I just ran the .cab file from my webmail.

I downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center, but despite my best efforts in many hours, the HTC HD2 always seems to be an unrecogized device. Called HTC support and they said I needed to disable my firewall, which I did, but this did not help!

If anyone can help or has had similar problems with an HTC phone please help! I tried a PC with Windows 7 - 64 bit, Vista Business - 32 bit, and XP - 32 bit. Same problem on all devices, though it seemed that some device drivers did load under Vista at one point, the phone was never recognized.

It's gonna be hard moving data to the phone without this sync working.

I replaced the cable that came with the phone - an Alltel cable (??) with a Monster Cable and put in an 8GB microSDHD card - there should have been a 16GB installed (won't buy from this guy on eBay again!!) and it still doesn't work. So I'm surmising that the phone is defective. Decided to pony up another 90 quid on a brand new HTC HD2 with warranty from Amazon that should be here on Tuesday. At least APL installed with a hitch......can't wait to starting writing software for this platform. It seem inevitable that Dyalog is going to have to target the Android OS, though I'm hoping they do iPhone/iPad as that is my platform of choice. As I said I bought this phone without a hookup to a phone co just to run APL :)

Hi Erik,

Were you able to see the phone with ActiveSync on Windows XP?

You mentioned that at one point some device drivers did load. Have you ever tried the Windows Mobile PowerToys? I use the cecopy program to copy files from my PC to the PDA. In that situation, I would have tried using cecopy to see if the device drivers would let the PC copy files to the PDA.

Regards,

Vince

Hi Vince, I ordered a second HTC HD2 from Amazon (fulfilled by) the seller is actually "wireless connection" (don't ever buy anything from these guys!!) and I received the phone yesterday. Was surprised when phone did not arrive in normal retail package, but generic white wrapper with celophane window. The bezel on the camera was scratched as if the phone had been dropped some rough pavement and NO 16 GB microSDHC card again! This was obviously refurbished and sold as new - so going back to seller! I ordered a third one today that should be here tomorrow and called seller first to make sure it's a brand new phone.

This phone did automatically load device drivers when I hooked it up to my Windows 7 laptop and now gives me the option on the phone of running ActiveSync which is not installed or using the phone as a remote drive (it says faster access this way?). I tried downloading Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) again and then I got an error when I hooked up the phone, so I uninstalled it! It seems WMDC is for syncing to Outlook (?) which I am not running on my laptop. I think I can simply use it as a remote drive to transfer APL WSs and the .cab file.

Anyone know of any reason to load WMDC? To answer your question I never did get the original phone working with ActiveSync on my XP netbook. Have not tried this phone. I will try the one I'm getting tomorrow to see how it behaves as I fear there are different versions of the firmware. The original phone which seems to have a lower serial number has an "A" after the serial number. The second phone does not! I might call HTC tonight to see if they can tell me, though their customer service, while pleasant, has not been very helpful.

BTW, what is Windows Mobile PowerToys and where do you get it? Also what is cecopy?

Regards, Erik

Hi Erik,

Windows Mobile Developer Power toys are utilities built by Microsoft developers to help people develop programs for Windows Mobile. They aren't officially supported by Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=74473fd6-1dcc-47aa-ab28-6a2b006edfe9&displaylang=en

CeCopy is a program which copies files from the Windows Mobile device to the PC or vice versa via ActiveSync. So, it tests the ActiveSync connection by its very nature.

in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, the Dan that you see there is just a link/shortcut to our sample workspace in "\My Documents\Pocket Dyalog\".

You can use File Explorer on the Windows mobile device to remove this link if you wish.

Vince
